5 Game Changing On-the-go Foods for RV Camping

Whether you’re driving down the road, going on a hike or just grabbing a quick snack, on-the-good foods are perfect for RV Campers. We found 5 of our favorite on-the-good RV camping foods to share with you. Caution: Don’t read this on an empty stomach.

1. Veggie Dip

This one is great because it’s easy and delicious. Want to make it? Grab a container, place your favorite veggie dip in the bottom, cut up some veggies and arrange in the container. Stick that in your fridge or cooler, then pull it out and you’ve got veggies and dip ready to go. Genius, right?

2. The Walking Taco
Have you ever been walking along when you suddenly got the craving for a nice taco? Anyone who is a connoisseur of the taco knows that they aren’t really good for travel. Well, a bag of Doritos can fix that. Just whip up all the delicious ingredients you’d normally put in a taco: meat, cheese, veggies, etc. Then open a small (or large) bag of Doritos and dump in the toppings. Mix it up and head out. Most people use the little bags, but a family size bag sounds pretty tempting right about now.

3. Sausage Pepperoni Puffs

It’s official, writing this blog before lunch was a very bad idea. Less than 10 ingredients go into this meal, making it easy and fast! The best part is that you can make these ahead of time and store them in the fridge. Pop them on a plate, warm a few up and you’ve got a delicious hand-held meal. Just make sure they cool down a little first. We’re just sayin’.

4. Frozen Banana on a Stick 

Okay, this one is seriously easy. Peel a banana, dip it in peanut butter or chocolate, roll it around in nuts, dried fruits or chocolate and stick it in the freezer. Now don’t get crazy and eat it before it’s frozen. (Or do..) Anyways, this is a great grab and go treat that the whole family will love. If it’s on a stick you can bring it anywhere your heart desires.

5. Trail Mix
We love trail mix because it’s one of the most versatile of camping foods. You can make it extra healthy or extra delicious or a good mix of both. All you need is some nuts, dried fruits and maybe a little bit of chocolate. Whatever mix you decide, this is the perfect way to fill up when you’re on the move. Note to self: muddy buddies don’t count as trail mix.

2. The People Make the RV Park Great
We love amenities! Who doesn’t love swimming pools, shuffleboard courts and other fun activities?  But even the most expensive RV park with the best amenities can’t compare to a place you consider home. It can’t compare to the place where you have family. It can’t compare to the place where you’ve loved and laughed for years. We believe that the best RV parks are the ones where people love to stay there and have a blast when they do! But shhh that’s a secret! 
3. You Can Save Money on Reservations
Look into programs like AAA, Good Sam’s, Passport America and some of the others. You can get up to 20% off a daily reservation rate. Also don’t forget to ask the park about military discounts, senior discounts and others! You might be surprised to find out that you could save quite a bit of money.

5 Tips for Camping in Florida During the Summer

Welcome to the Sunshine State in summer. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not always a sunny paradise. Don’t get us wrong, we love Florida, but we have some tips for you not-so-seasoned Florida vacationers. Here are 10 tips for surviving the Florida summer.

1. HYDRATE
Get a water bottle and bring it everywhere. It’s really easy to forget to consume water when you’re enjoying all Florida’s great attractions like theme parks, beaches, and nature preserves. Keep lots of water on hand too so you’ll always have some nearby in case of emergencies.

2. PONCHO 
We don’t want to rain on your parade, but Florida might. In the summer, rain showers are a daily occurrence. If you’re not from around here you might think the whole day is ruined, but it’s not. The summer rain showers usually only last a few minutes, but if you’re out in nature a rain poncho can help you wait out the storm. Good news, all the other tourists will leave and you’ll have the place to yourselves. You’re welcome.

3. BUG REPELLENT 
Remember when we told you about the rain? Well, lots of rain means lots of bugs. Don’t worry though, they are easily warded off with spray and candles. In fact, tossing some sage in your campfire will help keep them away too. Grab travel sizes of bug spray to bring on trails and make sure it’s water repellent. You’ll have a much better time if you aren’t getting eaten alive by bugs. Pro tip from Floridians.

4. HATS, HATS, HATS

Laugh away, but these hats aren’t just for the fashion-backward Floridians, they actually have a purpose. They help keep the sun out of your face and off your neck. Trust us, a good hat with breathable material will save you if you’re spending a long time outside. We’re not saying you need this particular hat, maybe a baseball cap will do, but don’t say we didn’t warn you.

5. SUNSCREEN

We’re pretty sure Florida is actually located on the sun. This is great for trying to get a summer tan and for cooking hot dogs without a grill. Anyway, you’ll remember the first time you try to brave the Florida sun without sunscreen. You won’t do it again, Florida is an awesome place to vacation, but you have to respect that sun. Make sure to apply and reapply, especially if you have young kids.

Hacks You Need to Know Before Making an RV Camping Checklist

Making a list and checking it twice isn’t just for Santa. Before you hit the open road, grab your favorite Type A personality and tell them you need a list, rest assured it will get done. But before they get started, refer them to this article for the Do’s and Don’ts of making RV camping checklists. They’ll follow this, trust us.

DOs 

  • MAKE YOUR LIST EARLY. If you wait until the day before your trip, your list is going to feel mighty difficult. You’ll probably also forgot important things like a swimsuit or raincoat (both important for Florida summers). If you enlist the help of your Type A personality, they’ll probably start 2-3 months before your trip.
  • USE FREE LISTS TO HELP. To start, download a few free checklists. They’ll give you a starting point and some basics that most RV trips need. You can always add things or take things away based on your own personal desires. 
  • HAVE EACH PERSON CREATE A LIST. Let everyone going on your trip create a list of things they think you’ll need or things they need personally. For example, if someone in your family wears contacts, they’ll need to remember their case and solution. You can then add everyone’s suggestions and personal needs to your master list. 
  • CHECK FINISHED ITEMS OFF ASAP. When you finish something, check it off. Not only will it make you feel accomplished, you’ll stay organized. Don’t think you’ll remember what you’ve done so far. Every time you check something off, consider giving yourself a small treat. It will help. 

DON’Ts

  • RELY TOO MUCH ON FREE LISTS. Okay, we did mention getting free lists, but only as a starting point. Although they can be helpful, most lists are extremely general and will not list all the items you’ll need. Use them only as a helper! 
  • DON’T IGNORE THE LIST. How many times do you create a list and lose it or not use it. Yeah, don’t do that. If you spend the time creating the list, keep your Type A personality friend around until it’s completed. Heck, maybe offer to take the on the trip for all their hard work! 
  • BE A LIST STICKLER. Before you leave, look over your list and make sure everything is checked off. Get together with everyone and make sure there wasn’t anything you missed on the list. Remember, lists are helpful but not perfect for remembering everything.

We’re called the Sunshine State, know for our beaches, beautiful weather and great tourist attractions. It’s why Florida is such a hot destination for RV campers across the country. So, what makes people really want to come here?

The Manatees
The name “sea cow” probably doesn’t conjur up images of something cute, but let us tell you the manatee is cute. They are gentle giants who love warm water. When you visit Florida you can even take a dip with these lovable creatures!
The Beach
If you love the beach, you’ll love RV camping in Florida. Whether you want to stay at an RV park near the beach or an RV park on the beach, there’s something for everyone. Plus, you can play on the beach almost all year long. Since us Floridians bring out our winter clothes at around 70 degrees, you’ll have a beautiful beach all to yourself.
Disney WorldDisney World is magical whether you’re 5 or 95. From the scenery and the rides to the food and fun, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. You don’t have to stay in Orlando to enjoy Disney. RV parks near Disney World make just as great of a location without all the extra traffic.
The Sun
Okay, we aren’t the only state with sunshine, but if you come RV camping in Florida you’ll notice the sun is a little different. It’s warmer, brighter and more beautiful. Just remember to put on lots of sunscreen when you’re enjoying the great outdoors in Florida. We aren’t called the Sunshine State for nothing.
The Cuban Sandwich
Rumor has it that the Cuban sandwich got it’s start right here in Tampa, Florida. When you come RV Camping in Florida, you don’t want to miss the Cuban sandwiches. They are crunchy, delicious and packed high with meat and cheese. Seriously, they are good.

Golf is big in Florida, in fact, we have the most golf courses in the country with over 1,200. Since we have nice weather all year, there’s never a bad time to play. And with so many golf courses you’ll never park your RV far from the green. Life is good!

Have you ever had freshly squeezed orange juice from real Florida oranges? If not, you’re missing out big time. Even if you don’t squeeze it with a dinosaur, it’s still delicious.
